Shady Glen Road
East Durham, NY 12423
The Country Place Resort started life out as a boarding house in the 1800’s called The Shady Glen Hotel. Yes our road is named after this Hotel. The original building was located down in the canyon that currently divides The Country Place Resort and Zoom Flume Water Park. Boasting a bowling alley, dance hall and outdoor pool, this facility mysteriously burned down in the late 1800’s.

The original Glen Manor
Subsequent hotel buildings were built on the site where our current family suites are located. And the pool was moved from down in the creek to up near the new boarding house (our current pool is located very close to where the original pool was).
The Aragona family purchased The Shady Glen Hotel in 1947 and ran the business for 8 years when the main building burned to the ground in 1955. Frank and Claire Aragona saw potential in this beautiful spot and started construction on what is now known as The Country Place Resort. Opening their doors in 1974, Frank and Claire were immediately ready to take the next step.

The Country Place Resort
Frank and Claire were not the only ones to recognize the beauty of this location. The 200-year-old stone bridge on Shady Glen Road was featured in the New York Bicentennial Tour and commercials. The waterfall that can be seen from our treetop-dining hall and from the pedestrian bridge was featured in an “I Love NY” commercial.
In 1981, the first water slides appeared. Dubbed Zoom Flume Water Park, this area attraction quickly grew until today, it is the leading summer attraction in Greene County and New York’s #1 Family Water Park. Our newest addition, Riptide Cove Wave Pool has been a huge success.
